Solo Concert Week: 4th - 9th March 2024

We are so excited to be hosting Solo Concert Week once again at Suzuki Hub!

Each weekday concert will be at 5.45pm, with drop-in rehearsals between 3.45pm and 5.15pm. Please come as early as you can on the day you usually have your private lesson, unless you have changed day. Saturday concerts will be at 11am and 3.15pm, with drop-in rehearsals from 9.15am to 10.30am, and afternoon rehearsals from 1.30pm to 2.45pm. All concerts will be streamed live on zoom and recorded for our records, but videos will not be available to parents afterwards so please take your own if you wish. Please do not video other people’s children without permission.

Please read the FAQs below if you have questions. If you’re still unsure, email Kate.

Q: Which concert is my child in?

A: Usually our students perform on the day they have their private lesson, but if you need to change that, or you do not have your private lesson at Suzuki Hub, please email Kate to request a different day.

Q: What time are the concerts?

A: Weekday concerts are at 5.45pm, Saturday concerts are 11am and 3.15pm.

Q: When should my child do their rehearsal?

A: For weekday concerts, please come between 3.45pm and 5pm, as early as you can within this time period. We will call groups of children in to do a rehearsal as and when they arrive. Rehearsals should finish by 5.20pm so at that point we will call all performers back in to get them tuned and ready for a 5.45pm start. If you have an early rehearsal please come back to the Hub by 5.20pm to get seated and tuned. For Saturday concerts, come to the rehearsal closest to your private lesson time (you will receive email confirmation) and then come back 20 minutes before the concert starts, ready to perform. Morning rehearsals on Saturday will be from 9.15am to 10.30am, and afternoon rehearsals on Saturday will be from 1.30pm to 2.45pm.

Q: Where is my child’s concert?

A: On days with only one concert, the performance will be in Group Room 1. If there are two concerts on one day, there will be lists of who is in which concert up on the orange wall.

Q: Where shall I put my child’s case and bags?

A: You can put their stuff on any of the hooks in reception, or in an unused teaching room.

Q: How long will the concerts last?

A: Most concerts will be less than an hour long, and the maximum length will be 75 mins.

Q: If I have to leave early, what should I do?

A: You can talk to the teacher in charge of your concert and they can swap you to an early spot in the concert so you can go. Please stay until the end if at all possible.

Q: When will we get our positive comments?

A: Your private teacher will receive your positive comments and deliver them to you soon.

Q: Why do solo concerts cost the same as two group sessions?

A: There are a lot of costs associated with running solo concerts – administration, paying the teachers, paying the accompanists, extra cleaning and reception duties. As a result we charge as if this were a week of groups so everyone knows how much they have to pay, and our bursary recipients get the same discount as they would during term time for groups.

Q: Will the concerts be streamed on zoom?

A: Yes, although the video may be turned off if some children do not want to be seen. The zoom link will be emailed to all Suzuki Hub parents. Please let the teacher in charge of your concert know if you wish your child’s video to be turned off, and send the zoom link to your friends and family who may want to watch live. The concerts will all be recorded but the recordings will not be made public without permission.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A: No, your child can wear whatever they feel comfortable in – preferably something smart.

Q: Can we invite friends and family?

A: Yes please! In person or on zoom.

Q: What else happens at Suzuki Hub during Solo Concert Week?

A: For performers nothing else happens. We have rehearsals and concerts only. For babies and toddlers and teacher trainees the schedule is the same. Otherwise there are no regular events such as orchestra, groups, music mind games or private lessons.
